Echoes of Equality
About The Event
Echoes of Equality: Women’s Labor Through the Ages is a panel discussion and community event exploring the history, experiences and changing realities of women’s labor and gender equality. The event invites audiences to reflect on how women’s work has contributed to societies and economies across different periods of history, while also creating space to discuss the challenges that continue to shape work today. The discussion moves from women’s labor in ancient civilizations, where much of women’s economic and social contribution was rarely recorded, to the continuing recognition of unpaid care work, workplace equality and legal conversations around equal wages. The programme also looks toward the future of work and considers what emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) could mean for women, employment and changing forms of labor. Organised as a space for reflection, discussion and creative expression, the event combines multiple formats rather than focusing only on a conventional panel discussion. Attendees can experience a short film screening, participate in an engaging conversation with the invited panelists, and listen to or contribute to an open mic featuring poetry, stories, music and spoken word related to women’s experiences. The panel features Prof. Rajesh Gill (Sociology), Ms. Girish Sharma from Public Policy India Organisation as moderator, Ms. Sirjan Kaur from PANDJ Foundation, and Prof. Dr. Gurinder Kaur (Public Administration), as listed in the event announcement. The event is presented by ISHKKI Foundation, The Chandigarh Book Club and Chandigarh Art Alire, bringing together perspectives from sociology, public policy, public administration and community expression. Echoes of Equality is open to everyone and provides an opportunity for people in Chandigarh to engage with conversations surrounding women’s work, equality, care work, wages, social contribution and the future of work.
